We are used to using “standard measures” to evaluate many things. That is the reason why nontopical children like me will always be dropped by predetermined requirements. At the age of being still uncertain about my own decisions, I have asked myself many times: “Should I choose ready-made paths like my peers are doing? Should I choose to be myself or to be fit in society?” Hello, my name is Kim Ngan. It is my pleasure to share my own story.

If someone asks: “What major does your daughter study?” which is one of familiar questions of many parents, my mother always has to go around to answer. I wondered why she did not answer directly: “She does not study at all” would be probably simpler, but then I gradually realized that my mother was ashamed of me.
Yes, I did not enter to any college. I chose to experience through my gap – year period. This is a barrier of my job applications. The rejection emails were constantly sent, making me start being doubt myself. It is not difficult to explain that the job market is increasingly demanding, so there is no chance for a non – degree applicant.
Fortunately, there is a workplace willing to accept and give opportunities to nontopical individuals like me, that is IMG GROUP. Here, I have been taught, experienced in many different positions to find out my own strengths. It is also the place where each employee will be evaluated based on working performance instead of degrees and where young employees are trusted despite of making many mistakes and being scolded. Many of you will be surprised why I still listed ‘being scolded’, won’t you?. I hope that you will be aware of the reality that there is no working environment having only sweetness. In my opinion, the young needs to learn not only expertise and working skills but also imperfect self-acceptance. I appreciate the way IMG recognize our efforts and improving potentialities.
Up to now, I have been an IMG member for more than half a year – the period which is enough for me to feel the enthusiasm and affections of the IMG Board of Directors for young generation through placing trust, sending wishes and rewards every holiday, birthday… all of this melts my heart!
